The Center for Spine will strongly encourage the back pain sufferer to continue with a back or neck exercise program - for the rest of their life. That's because once a person has a back pain attack, he or she is four times as likely to have a recurrence. Being a past victim of back pain, the individual needs to work extra hard to prevent future recurrences.
A home exercise program will often be difficult to perform because of the back pain. For starters, it may help if the pain is relieved and the muscles are relaxed. This is what Goode Wraps do.

Sciatica pain along the large sciatic nerve runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and along the back of each leg. The most common form or back pain. Sciatica is usually caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve from a disc problem related to a rupture, hernia, or bulging. Also, a pinched nerve can cause the pain. Goode Wraps relax the muscles and tendons and usually provides relief while the problems heals.

Add sciatica to the sorts of back pain that shouldn't keep you in bed.
A week or two in bed used to be routine treatment for any sort of aching back. But over the past 15 years, doctors have learned that many types of backaches get better just as fast if people go about their normal activities.
Until now, that hadn't been tested with pain from the sciatic nerve -- pain that's usually limited to the buttocks and thigh but sometimes goes all the way down to the foot.
Doctors randomly assigned 183 patients either to bed rest or "watchful waiting" -- getting up and about whenever possible without provoking pain.
After two weeks, 70 percent of the 92 patients who got out of bed only to bathe or use the toilet felt better. So did 65 percent of those who were up and about. Within statistical error, those are the same results.
Dr. Patrick C.A.J. Vroomen of Maastricht University Hospital in the Netherlands, where two weeks of bed rest is a common treatment for sciatica, reported his findings in last week's New England Journal of Medicine.
After 12 weeks, 87 percent of patients in each group felt better.
