LAKE GEORGE, NEW YORK TARGETED FISH
LAKE TROUT Char species characterized by lighter spots on darker backgrounds. In the spring and fall, this heavyweight-division battler comes to the surface and can be taken on streamers, spoons, plugs, and bait. A hook-up begins a series of long slashing runs, bulldog stand-offs, and heart-stopping surface runs...a battle that often lasts 20 minutes or more. This is sport fishing at it's best. In the warm summer months, lake trout seek out deep cool waters and are found down to 190'. At this time light tackle with down riggers, wire, or lead core line is used to take fish. During cold winter weather, ice fishing enthusiasts regard lake trout as a prize catch.
ATLANTIC SALMON The Sky-dancing "King" of Sport fishing. Landlocked Atlantic Salmon characterized by irregularly shaped spots often forming x-like patterns. Lake George is especially know for it's hard - fighting, sweet tasting landlocked. This great battler is famous for it's sky rocketing jumps and long slashing runs. Spring and fall months are best when surface water temperatures are cool. During these periods, salmon are found on or close to the surface and offer great light tackle fishing until freeze up in December. NORTHERN PIKE Sport fishing's "Street-Fighting Bully" characteristics display whitish or yellowish spots. The great northern is a mere machine for the assimilation of other organisms. No other game fish is so loved or hated as the northern, alias mean machine, trout killer, barracuda. All who battle with this "eating machine" admit, pound for pound, the Northern's fighting and jumping ability equals or betters most other fresh water game fish. SMALL MOUTH BASS Tail-walking, sky-dancing fool, king of the rock pile. These attributes make the small mouth one of the greatest and most sought-after game fish. Lake George is rated as one of the top small mouth waters in the U.S. Small mouth bass season opens the 3rd. Saturday in June and closes November 30th. Excellent summer fishing in late evening, night time , and dawn hours. LARGE MOUTH BASS Are most frequently caught off rocky points nearing drop-offs, docks and deeper tributaries.
