I began writing Like an Egg in 1985, and developed it into a feature by 1988. I am grateful
to John Chambless at the Chester County, PA Daily
Local News, who offered me the daily spot in the paper
where Like an Egg has appeared since November 1988. Inspirations come from my own
interaction with my close friends and family and stories I pick up while doing "research"
at local taverns. All the characters are real people, none of the names have even
been changed. (See The Real-Life Cast
of "Like An Egg")
Like John in the comic strip, I have been a Boston Red Sox fan since my dad took
me to Fenway Park to see my first baseball game in 1968. The Red Sox theme pops up
from time to time in "Like an Egg". Other themes that are visited which
are based on my true life include the business of graphic design, the game of poker,
and an affection for good diners.
I got married the same year that this comic strip began publication, and I credit
my wife with encouraging me to make that happen. We have a daughter and a son, now
twelve and foutreen years old. I am a graphic designer by trade,, and my wife operates
her own ballet school.
