Our Mission:

To develop Optimism as a philosophy of life.
To better our community through involvement.
To promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs.
To inspire respect for law.
To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people.
To aid and encourage the development of youth in the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others will advance the well-being of human kind, the community, and world..

The Mechanicsville Optimist Club was chartered on May 29, 1982 with 35 members with J. Theodore Bailey
as its charter President. The club has evolved into an organization that is well respected and supported by
the community. The Mechanicsville Optimist Club is devoted to the betterment of our community, and
welcomes men and women 18 years old or older to join us in our mission. E-mail us for more information or

SOME OF OUR PROJECTS::
SPORTS - we sponsor little league baseball teams, girls & boys softball teams, pigskin football, youth
basketball, soccer, and junior golf.
JUST SAY NO - we sponsor Just Say No clubs in three local elementary schools.
CHRISTMAS IN APRIL - we help sponsor a house to be renovated and provide labor for the renovation.
ESSAY CONTEST - each year we sponsor an essay contest. The theme varies each year. We send the
winner to Freedom's Foundation in Valley Forge PA.
PROJECT GRADUATION - cook food for graduating seniors at an all night substance free graduation party.
