Religious guest houses can provide an excellent alternative to a hostel
or other budget accommodation --particularly in Italy where they seem

accommodations followed by a list of them in Italy. Go to DolceVita

TYPES OF RELIGIOUS ACCOMMODATIONS
Convents and Monasteries offer a simple budget accommodation often
in buildings with exceptional architecture and definitely with a spiritual
atmosphere. Like many B & B's, a simple breakfast is included in the
price and occasionally a wholesome mid-day meal might be available for an
additional price. These accommodations often require behavior and/or dress
appropriate for their religious setting. Some accept only men, others only
women or married couples.
Pilgrims Houses are generally located near monasteries, sanctuaries
and other holy places, and are managed by monks. These accommodations are
similar to modest hotels. Breakfast is generally included.
Religious Inns are often managed by sisters and offers simple lodgings,
without meals or breakfast.
Institutes and Foundations are for religious personel. If there
are vacancies--especially in the cities and their peripheries--they might
offer these to the general public as a Bed and Breakfast with half
pension or full board.
Religious Hotels managed by monks are generally
very comfortable and located near places of intense religious activity.
