When Kurt's not on the ice, he can sometimes be seen working as a commentator or backstage reporter. Kurt is a natural on the microphone. His enthusiasm and charisma allow the viewing audience to have a great time with him. Kurt has been on the mike for events such as The World Championships, Canadian Nationals, The Gold Championships, and The Rock and Roll Championships. Off the ice, Kurt has hosted events such as the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and a Canada Day Celebration.

Besides skating, Kurt enjoys playing golf and hockey.
Kurt was an honorary captain for the Edmonton Oilers hockey team. Kurt even has an Oilers jersey with the number 89, signifying the year that he won his 1st World Championship.
In 1991, Kurt wrote a bestselling autobiography entitled Forcing The Edge.
Kurt donated the skate that he used to land his historic quad to the Sports Hall of Fame.

Away from the skating rink, Kurt devotes his time to various worthy causes. Kurt has been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Kids Help Phone.


Kurt has also been known to be very accomodating to his fans. Kurt always makes the time to give his fans something to remember, whether it be a hug, a smile, or an autograph.
