FORGIVENESS...OF
ENEMIES
MATT. 5:7...."Blessed
are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy. (39) Resist
not evil; but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to
him
the other also. (40) And if any man will sue thee at
the
law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. (41)And
whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.(43)
It hath been said, thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine
enemy.
(44) But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless
them
that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which
despitefully
use you, and persecute you. (45) That ye may be the
children
of your Father which is in heaven; for he maketh his sun to rise on the
evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. (46)
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not
even
the publicans the same?" (vs. 47,48;
LUKE
6:27-34.)
MATT. 6:12...."Forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. (14) If ye
forgive
men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (15)But
if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father
forgive
your trespasses." (also read LUKE 11:4).
MATT.
18:21-35...."Then
came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against
me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say
not
unto thee, until seven times, but until seventy times seven. Therefore
is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take
account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was
brought
unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had
not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and
children,
and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell
down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I
will
pay thee all. Then the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion,
and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went
out,
and found one of his fellow-servants which owed him an hundred pence,
and
he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, pay me that
thou
owest. And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him,
saying,
have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not; but
went
and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his
fellow-servants
saw what had been done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto
their
lord all that was done. Then his lord after that he had called him,
said
unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because
thou desirest me; Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy
fellow-servant,
even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him
to
the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due to him. So likewise
shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts
forgive
not every one his brother their trespasses."
MARK 11:25...."When
ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any; that your
Father
also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. (v.26).
LUKE 6:35...."Love
ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and
your
reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest; for
he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. (36) Be
ye
therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. (37)Judge
not, and ye shall not be judged; condemn not, and ye shall not be
condemned;
forgive, and ye shall be forgiven."
LUKE 17:3-4...."Take
heed to yourselves; if thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him;
and
if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times
in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I
repent;
thou shalt forgive him". Also read MATT.
18:21,22.
ROMANS 12:14...."Bless
them which persecute you; bless, and curse not. (17) Recompense
to no man evil for evil. (19) Avenge not yourselves,
but
rather give place unto wrath; for it is written, vengeance is mine; I
will
repay saith the Lord. (21) Be not overcome of evil, but
overcome
evil with good."
I COR.
4:12-13...."Being
reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it; being defamed, we
intreat."
EPHESIANS
4:32...."Be
ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as
God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
COL. 3:13...."Forbearing
one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel
against
any; even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye."
PHIL. 10...."I
beseech thee for my son Onesimus,...(18) If he hath wronged thee, or
oweth
thee ought, put that on mine account."
I PETER 3:9...."Not
rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but contrariwise
blessing;
knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a
blessing."
