Association of Southern Métis, Inc.

ASM, Inc is a chartered non-profit organization incorportated in 1996.    It was founded and is operated by Métis people in the United States, for the benefit and support of Métis people;   the issues, concerns, heritage and culture, as well as our ideals and goals as we take our place in the history and future of our world.

What is Métis? Basically, anyone of Native American /aboriginal and "other" ancestry. Métis people represent a variety of tribal heritages of the Americas, that as contact with explorers, settlers, and immigrants proceeded over 400 or more years, became a sub-culture thru-out the land. Regardless of the loss of Métis identity thru assimilation into one aspect of our ancestry or another, we now seek to re-kindle the awareness and knowlege of Métis as individuals and a People.   For more information on Métis People and Culture, click this link: "The Other Métis"
