American Métis Voice
April 2000
Message from the President... Members of ASM have since the beginning been active in many facets of the organization, including: cultural and educational programs; collecting and delivering food, clothes, and supplies to those in need; meetings, camp-out weekends and gatherings; working with other groups and individuals; providing resource information and materials, and newsletters; sharing and supporting personal and spiritual growth. I wish to here thank all those who worked hard and gave so much of themselves in the operation of ASM and the programs we have had. As people go thru challenges and changes in life, so do organizations. This can lead to greater opportunities and developements, and we can say that Spirit has guided us thru the rough and rocky waters to the shores of great promise. There is much to do to fullfill the vision, but there is much provided to do so. This isn't any one-man band, no dog-and-pony show put on to entertain a few passers-by for pocket change. This is a Métis Movement, an awakening and coming together, a time for voices to be heard and action to be taken. We are inviting our Métis extended family to join with us and be a part of this, in the "Time of Changes", to honor our ancestors, and provide for our children. The Millenium Oak stands with it's roots deep in the past, it's mighty trunk and branches supporting the leaves that reach to the sky, as a symbol of Métis heritage, strength, and growth. It has survived for many hundreds of years, as has our legacy. We need only to claim it, and proclaim ourselves as who we are, with honor, respect, and unity. Peace, Deb Natola
