Arsenic and Old Lace

Creative Project

In the play we have seen many misunderstandings and hilarious confusions.  Create a few scenes of misunderstandings and confusions in the same vein that they are portrayed in Arsenic and Old Lace. You must write a script that you will have memorized for your performance. You may make groups of any size (even a group of one). You may also videotape your performance and bring it in to class. Videotapes can have “extras” who are not in Drama I, but they are not allowed to have scripts. If you are absent on the day of the performance, you must complete the makeup option.

A. Make the story of the aunts and their “hobby” into a Scooby Doo detective show. Don’t forget to add humor and full character development. There should also be a big “revelation scene” at the end.

B. Create an episode of  “The X files” trying to figure out what has happened to the men. Create this script as a terrifying mystery. Include some possible false leads and some terrifying “alien possibilities” for Mulder and Scully to investigate.

C. Make a puppet show of the basic events in the play. Don’t forget to create a stage area, props that are puppet sized, and somewhat detailed puppets.

D. Rewrite the play from Jonathan’s point of view. Keep all the same basic events, but have Jonathan’s interpretation of them. You may have him speak to the audience at points or change the lines in the play, or both.

E. Other? Please see me for approval.
