PLOT

"In scenarist Helen Deutsch's version of the Cinderella story. . .[Ella] (Caron) was a petulant, defiant, altogether unappealing young woman; while her two stepsisters (Amanda Blake and Lisa Daniels) were, contrary to the original Charles Perrault story, beautiful and accomplished. Ella's stepmother, as played by Elsa Lanchaster, wasn't particularly mean or unkind; and there was very little magic about Estelle Winwood's fairy godmother. . ."
- Clive Hirschhorn, The Hollywood Musical

NOTES

"Without making too strong a comparison to Lili. . .it is probable the makers figured on approaching the previous film's success. While Slipper has charm and a somewhat similar ugly duckling-love triumphant plot, it has neither the tremendous heart impact of Lili nor sufficient freshness of theme."
- Variety
