FLY FISH
LITE !
On the stream of dreams...
Combine non stop action,
the artistry of fly fishing, and the fun of water
sports.
WET WADE the cooling kills
and creeks of the old colonial Catskills...
Think Norman rockwell swimming
holes, hot sultry summer days, bonefishing.
This is the answer to minimalist
prayers !
SUMMER TIME... AND
THE FISHIN' IS... EASY, FISH ARE JUMPIN' ...AND THE WATER IS WARM !
The Montana
Guide's
As a professional fly fishing guide since 1989, and dipping
lines about the waters of Montana, Idaho, British Columbia, up state New
York & Long Island and the Virgin Islands, you might say I know good
fly fishing. Consistent hookups with the real possibility of a two to four
pound fish is excellent fly fishing in anybody's book.
RIVER SMALLMOUTH or BLACK BASS offer comparable
"MONTANA ACTION"for WILD
FISH.
Why waste your time casting for over hyped, genetically
retarded, hatchery stockies, when you can be catching
REAL fish. As a guide with integrity
its my duty to steer you to the best possible fly fishing, believe me this
is the real deal.
DRY FLY &
STREAMERS
Summer is River Smallmouth season, you will have a blast
learning the same basics with a fly rod that you can use (with some tweaking
& refinements) for trout, salmon, and saltwater species.
To my friends and clients west of the Great Divide I
can describe River Smallmouth as a cross between West Slope Cutthroats, Rainbows,
and Bull trout. They have the opportunistic feeding behavior of Cutthroats,
the baitfish preferences of Bulls, and when caught in "skinny water" the
aerial acrobatics of Bows !
Kiyoshi Watanabe and 4lb. Black Bass (caught during the
fall "Baitfish Frenzy")
GREAT FOR CHILDREN WITH
NOTORIOUSLY SHORT ATTENTION SPANS !
Smallmouth are aggressive ambushers that readily devour
certain fly patterns. It's easy to master the techniques, learning in the
process while you 're having fun catching fish.
FLY FISH FOR THE OTHER
NATIVE!
MON-NUH-SHE-GUN (Ojibway
origin: Black Bass/Smallmouth)
Twenty years ago I was running a wrecking yard on the
Flathead Indian Reservation at the base of Montana's beautiful cathedral
spired Mission Range.
One day, as I was practicing my fly casting in the old
two track dirt road that separated Ford Land from Chevy Land when an old
, beat to hell, Falcon station wagon squeals to a stop beside me in
a cloud of dust. Dust-in-Wind, "Dusty" for short, a half Ojibway, half Salish,
Native American, sticks his head out the window, looks me and my fly
tackle up and down, breaks into a wide piano tooth grin and asks "Ketch
any?"
Well to make a long story short we became fast friends
exchanging been there done that stories, and swaping fishing tales, Dusty
telling of the "holes" on the Res., me telling of surfcasting off the beaches
of Long Island for stripers and fishing in the Adirondacks and Catskills
for trout.
About there Dusty stops me and shakes his head saying,
"trout ...no trout, Mon-nuh-she-gun !" Seems that when Dusty was a tyke,
he followed the Pow Wow Dance circuit around the Northeast with his folks,
and where ever they camped the night he remembered the great fishing they
always had for River Smallmouth, "Nushyguns".
Well, now that I've pulled anchor and drifted back East,
I can tell Dusty that he was right. The fishing for "Nushyguns"is as good
as it ever was and way better than stockie trout fishing that a lot of people
call sport.
FLY FISH
LITE
By the end of June the water temperatures are in the
mid sixties to low seventies, days are hot and very humid. It's time to try
Fly Fishing Lite, forget no-sweats go no-waders. Think Bonefish Wear, shorts
or swim trunks, don wading boots with wader saver socks and slip into comfort.
Wet wade in cooling runs, dip into ledge pools overhung by ancient twisted
sycamores, bathe in the spray of misty waterfalls.
It adds a whole new "fun" dimension to the sport.
Remember less is more simplicity is perfection.
