I Compose all of my MIDI files using a particular powerful Midi keyboard, the Alesis QuadraSynth (See photo below). It has great sounds and it is capable of producing life-like instrumental sounds. Overall, I am very pleased with its output.
As you may have guessed, my specialty instrument is the piano. When you listen to my compositions, keep this in mind and you will hear the major influences the instrument has had on my work.
Depending on the playback ability of your soundcard, the MIDI files below may sound excellent or not so excellent. My belief is that creating files that are rhythmically sound, usually sound good on any soundcard. Keep in mind the general purpose of the composition, the whole picture, before dismissing the file due to the quality of the instruments.
Secondly, if it at all possible, place some reverb on MIDI channel 1. It will make the files sound a whole lot better.
If, after listening, you have any comments on my work, feel free to e-mail me with the link at the bottom of the page.
This file was created with many elements in mind. The first, and most important, is the progressional nature of the piece. The electric piano adds a particular easy harmony, which repeats itself throughout the composition. Notice the use of the ocarina implemented as a thick, heavy, drone bass. I hope that you like it.
This next file displays the technique of instrumental blending. This technique, when used correctly, lends itself to a very rewarding experience for the listener. What I mean by blending is the way the instruments fit together as a whole piece. Played separately, they sound boring and repetitive, but when played together, they make the composition what it is.
This next file is a battle "style" MIDI also, but it has a different type of dramatic feel than the first file. Again, instrument blending is used. The main difference is the way the instruments are used. Listen, and see if you can hear the difference.
This is the last of my battle themes for this page. Take particular notice to the melody. It is two pipe organs, each of which is playing a separate melody line. Free counterpoint is quite effective when used properly, isn't it?
Contemporary Instrumental MIDI File
This next file can be describes as a "cheerful ending". A kind of resolution to the three previous files. Several instruments were used to create depth and vitality. Listen closely as the piano and strings duel for the main melody part.
By the name of this next file you might guess what I had in mind when I wrote it. Basically, just imagine yourself floating above the earth in a calm state. Varied instrumentation adds to the imagery that I wish to share with the listener.
Music that has cultural context is quite unique in itself. Hearing certain types of music can evoke certain imagery that is only thought of for that particular place. This is the premise for this next selection. Listen to the instrumentation and see if you can hear the resemblance to African music,
This next file, I think, resembles a race, particularly a race car race. I am not sure why I think this, maybe you can tell me why?
The pace changes a bit with this jazz file. Only five principle instruments were used in the creation process of this composition. It is a lot easier to follow the parts and distinguish the instruments than in the previous files. Listen closley to the bass line, it accents and compliments the melody line perfectly. Also, listen to the organ solo in the middle of the piece.
Funk orchestra "Style" MIDI File
Have you ever wondered what makes good funk what it is? I have the answer for you, it is the driving beat and thick bass line. Listen closley for these two elements and be surprised how effective they are when they work in unison. Also, listen to the horns that make up the melody line.
Classical Organ Rhapsody MIDI File
This next file was composed primarily for the pipe organ. I love Bach and his pipe organ compositions, and this provided the inspiration for writing this piece. See if you can follow the many organ parts. It may be hard at first, but repetitive listening will make it much easier.
While we are one the classical end of the spectrum, allow me to introduce this next file. Basically, it is quite a simple file. The primary instruments are the strings. They produce a very nice sound when played together in a melodic fashion. The only thing I can say about this composition is how emotional music is.
If you enjoyed the last composition, you will like this one also. The work is pretty much the same idea as the last file without the middle development section.
