H.D.'s musical
background...
When the famous UK group "Tornados" in 1962 had their first hit "Telstar",
H.D. was lost to that sound in front of his steam radio. Watching the warm
tube glow, listening that song, he dreamed that he would play Hammond Organ
one fine day like the pros on air. Reality was different, a Hammond was not
effordable and he had to build his first organ completely by himself from
scratch. After long soldering nights the organ was ready. But the sound never
matched the expectation. He practised heavily and played some songs from
memory. After some time he took all his savings and acquired his first Farfisa
Organ with rhythm section. Later, a friend bought the Farfisa for his daughter
and time came for some real stuff - a Technics E66 moved in. This powerful
toy enabled the first programmed sessions. |

| Other friends asked H.D. to install a light show, strobos and
effects in their party room. When it was time for them to plunk down the
bucks, they had not enough cash and offered a Höfner "Beatles Bass"
and another no-name electric Guitar to compensate the difference. He accepted
and owned his first guitars. The Höfner's string setting was far too
high and the no-name Electric didn't work at all. Guitar body and repair
work took place for some weeks. Having two guitars every day in view, it
was clear that the famous Shadows song "Apache" was the first song he tried
to perform. Playing from memory was a desaster and there was no question
he had to purchase songbooks and start exercises. Opening the songbook, full
of hope and having not a clue about anything, gave a hard time. It ended
with hours, days, weeks and finally years of practising playing guitar. Guitars
from different brands, you name them, found her new home in the musicroom.
During a USA trip he found a rare Mosrite, made popular by the Ventures.
H.D. performed some gigs with friends where he played the Bass. Even playing
Bass was not his first choice, it gave him better musical basic understanding.
The other band members found girlfriends and got married. Live went on and
childs at home did not allow to have the band playing regularly. Therefore
H.D. tried Band In A Box to replace the missing band members. It worked quite
well and he had some hundred songs ready after a while. PC's and software
improved and he began to enter MIDI files in Power Tracks Pro. The result
was better than everything before. Midisoft's Studio and Recording Session
software made it complete.
With the excellent sounds from Roland's Sound Canvas SC-55 he was often asked
from neighbours - "Who's playing that killer Organ in your sessions?" or
the best compliment he got - "Hey man, are you a professional musician? Listened
to your session and I was impressed."
How the MIDIs are
done...
H.D's songs are created by different technics. Playing Keyboard and real
time MIDI sequencer recording with later editing is one possibility. Some
songs, especially demanding records like Queen's famous "A Kind Of Magic",
are completely entered by Mouse clicks. Power Tracks Pro was found to be
the best tool for that time consuming process. For other songs, it was helpful
to create basic track's in Band In A Box, convert them to MIDI and finish
and polish them with manuell editing. However, a good harmonic, musical and
timing understanding is necessary to get good results and avoid MIDI jam.

You're invited not just to listen to the MIDI files, please change and improve
the songs as you like. Your e-mail with the improved songfile is always welcome.
For example take the file "I'm A King Bee" where Doc Doc added nice
Guitar solos and the bridge. The song is now really lively. |
