On-Line Study Resources

On this page we have compiled a listing of links to a number of on-line reference resources that can be very useful in your personal study. Included are on-line Bibles in several translation versions, the entire text of which can be searched per your instructions for specific words or topics. Some links also include supplementary reference works such as commentaries, dictionaries, lexicons, and more. Also, at the bottom of this page are links to downloadable Bible software.

Bible Gateway - The Bible Gateway is an on-line Bible search engine. You can select from over 10 Bible versions in English (KJV, NKJV, NLT, NIV, NASB, RSV, ASV, Amplified, Darby, Young's Literal, and more) or conduct searches in 18 foreign languages. Searches can be made for specific passages, key words, or topics. Multiple Bible versions can be compared together verse by verse.

Bible Study Tools - (Crosswalk.com) A very good collection including over 20 Bible translations, as well as Strong's, Commentaries, Dictionaries, Lexicons, Interlinear, etc.

Blue Letter Bible - The entire King James version of the Bible. Each verse can be individually "exploded" to see the original Hebrew or Greek words along with their Strongs number. From this "exploded" view, clicking on the Strongs number will bring up the Lexicon (Dictionary) entry for that word. Clicking on the English word instead, brings up the concordance of every occurrence of that word. Each verse is also keyed to the "Treasury of Scripture Knowledge" cross reference system. The Blue Letter Bible also provides links to an extensive collection of both classical and contemporary commentary keyed to each verse (including audio commentary in REAL AUDIO format).

Berean University On-Line Library - A large collection of on-line resources and links including several on-line Bibles. Other resources include Bible Dictionaries and Commentaries, links to other Christian and Theological Libraries, links to Christian Search Engines, and more.

Christian Classics Library - Wheaton College has amassed this large collection of Christian writings and reference works. All can be read directly on-line, and some are also available for downloading in various formats. Here are a few titles to give you a taste of the variety of their collection: Early Church Fathers (38 volumes), Fox's Book of Martyrs, The Works of Flavious Josephus, Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (Gibbon), and many more. A search utility is also available.

Chumash Intelligent Concept Search - Torah with Rashi commentary.

Easton's Bible Dictionary - An on-line version of Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary from A to Z.

Guide to Early Church Documents - An extensive on-line collection of early church and related historical documents. A good resource for the historian.

World Wide Study Bible - This resource is provided by Wheaton College. According to the developers of the site, "The World Wide Study Bible was conceived as a means of organizing all of the Bible-related resources on the World Wide Web according to scripture reference". The site is indexed by Books of the Bible, and also includes the Apocrypha. Selecting a Book brings up a list of related references and resources, as well as chapter sub-selections, which will bring up an additional listing of more specific resources (commentaries, etc.) and your choice of Bible translations from which to read from on-line. The choice of available translations may vary slightly depending on which portion of the Bible you are in. Some of the available versions include: NIV, ASV, Darby, KJV, NASB, NRSV, RSV, YLT, BBE, JPS, Webster, Douay, Textus Receptus, Westcott-Hort, and others, as well as the KJV in REAL AUDIO, narrated by Alexander Scourby for your on-line listening pleasure.

 Free Software

The Online Bible

http://www.onlinebible.net/index.html

Some excellent Bible software is available free for downloading at Online Bible (www.onlinebible.net). The basic program (Starter Pack) includes the KJV (Authorized Version). An "Advanced Starter Pack" also includes Greek/Hebrew Lexicons, and the Easton's Bible Dictionary. The Bible text can be searched by word or phrases, and the KJV text can be displayed with Strong's Numbers that are "hot linked" to the Lexicons. The "Starter Packs" can be expanded by downloading additional free "modules". Available modules include a variety of English and foreign Bible translations, as well as Hebrew and Greek texts. Additional modules include maps and supplementary reference books. The additional translations/books can be viewed simultaneously in multiple windows. (Software will run on WIN95/98/NT/ME/2000)

e-Sword

http://www.e-sword.net/index.html

Another excellent Bible software program, free for downloading. Similar to the Online Bible program above, but in my opinion even easier to use. Additional modules can be downloaded to build your available reference library. Available modules include a variety of English and foreign translations including Hebrew and Greek texts, Dictionaries, Commentaries, and other reference books and maps. Word searches can be done on the Bible text. The KJV text can be displayed with Strong's Numbers that are "hot linked" to the Lexicons. All English Bible texts are also hot-linked to the Dictionaries and Commentaries. Multiple Bible translations can be viewed simultaneously, either in parallel columns or in a line-by-line comparison format. Separate display windows for the Bible text, Dictionaries, and Commentaries can either be viewed simultaneously on-screen, or individually selected for full screen display. (Software will run on WIN95/98/NT/ME/2000)

My favorite program for simplicity and ease of use. Contains the KJV and ASV plus a Literal Translation with Strong's numbers, and a Transliteration of the Hebrew and Greek. Includes Strong's Lexicons, Easton's Bible Dictionary, and several other works. See web site for details.

Also available: The Bible Library Suite, $19.99 for CD-ROM from ValuSoft.

The Bible Library Suite is an expanded version of The Bible Library containing fourteen different cross-referenced Bible translations. Also includes Strong's Greek and Hebrew Dictionary, 4 Commentaries, 10 References/Historical Works, 33 Maps, Clip Art, and more.
