"The idea of multiples is the distribution of ideas" Joeseph Beuys said. The production of multiples was an important component in his work, running through it, as it does, right from the sixties until his death.
He used the term "multiple" not only for plastic limited edition works, but also for the prints, videos, records, flyers, posters and post-cards that appeared within the scope of his multiples.
He saw in the medium of multiplied art a good opportunity for broad communication with all those who were interested in his art and thinking.
Some of Joseph Beuys' most famous multiples include: a simple wooden chest with "Intuition" written on it, the "Sledge" with the felt blanket and torch strapped on (1969), the Felt Suit (1970) tailored to Beuys measure-ments, and a simple lamp powered by the acid from a real lemon.
