We
adopted Hannah (in front) in March of 2000 from Nor Cal Boxer Rescue. She was taken to
the shelter afer having just giving birth to puppies. The puppies
did not come with her. The minute I saw Hannahs picture on
the Nor Cal website I told Richard "this is the one!!"
Her picture brought tears to my eyes. Look at that sad face and
how thin she was!!

Today Hannah is definitely a different dog
than the one we met that first day. Shes finally feeling
confident that she is loved and her home is with us forever.
She's gone through obedience training and both her and Kodak have
experienced TTouch. She is still
somewhat leash aggressive but after being attacked by a pitbull
in November of 2000 it's understandable so we're working on it.
She is your typical boxer, stubborn, bouncy (especially when she
knows its time to go to the park shes like a
tornado going though the house), a wiggle butt, loves her tummy
rubs and is a total cuddle bug! Shes also given us the cold
shoulder when shes been reprimanded! She looks at us with
those eyes as if to say "are you talking to me?"
During our first year with Hannah Richard
kept telling me Hannah needs a buddy. I wasn't so sure I wanted
two dogs so we compromised and decided to foster. Enter Kodak! He
was abandoned at the "night drop" at the local shelter!
When a family came to meet him and they told us they liked him
and wanted to adopt him we couldn't let him go so now Hannah has
a buddy!! His nickname is Elvis! He shakes like Elvis and sings
to us! plus he has the droopiest eyes you've ever seen! He
doesn't play with any toys nor Hannah but after a month he is
finally playing with us. You don't know how excited we were the
first time he picked up a nylabone and started to chew on it!
Like Hannah was he is very much underweight but he's come to the
right home! We'll fatten him up!
Well
Kodak has been with us over a year now - what a change! He is
such a lover and how he twists & wiggles! Hannah & Kodak
have become the best of buddies!!

Hannah
& Kodak have brought us so much joy! We wish we could adopt
all the homeless pets but we cant so why dont you
adopt one or two? Check out your local humane society or rescue
organization. If you're interested in a boxer this site will tell
you where the nearest rescue organization is in your area! The Boxer Map
"I
Have Done Something"
(author unknown)
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs
of
human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness, and
betrayal. And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do
something?"
God was silent for a moment, and then spoke softly, "I have
done
something," was the reply. "I created you."

Dog
Once
I was a lonely dog, Just looking for a home. I had no place to
go, No one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets, in rain in heat and snow. I
ate whatever I could find,
I was always on the go. My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
My body ached with pain. And no one stopped to give a pat, Or to
gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance, I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice So gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me And took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you Was whispered in my ear."
"You'll have a home to call your own where you will know no
fear."
"You will be dry, you will be warm, you'll have enough to
eat."
"And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all
be sweet."
I was afraid I must admit, I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let A human come so near. And as she
tended to my wounds
And bathed and brushed my fur She told me about the rescue group
And what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle, A line that never ends."
"And in the center there is you protected by new
friends."
"And all around you are the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home after you've been found."
"And all the other folk are searching near and far.
"To find the perfect home for you, where you can be a
star."
She said, "There is a family, that's waiting patiently, and
pretty soon we'll find them, just you wait and see."
"And then they'll join our circle they'll help to make it
grow,
so there'll be room for more like you, who have no place to
go."
I waited very patiently,
The days they came and went. Today's the day I thought, my family
will be sent.
Then just when I began to think It wasn't meant to be,
there were people standing there just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heartbeat, I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting for a special dog like
you."
Now every night I say a prayer to all the gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live and all you've given me.
But most of all protect the dogs in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person to lift them off their feet."
