If you are using a version older then AOL 3.0, you should upgrade before attempting to use any Winsock programs such as mIRC
You can use the 16bit version of mIRC with both AOL 3.0 for Windows 3.1 and AOL 3.0 for Windows 95. The 32bit version of mIRC can only be used with AOL 3.0 for Windows 95.
If you don't know for sure which version of America Online you are using, click on HELP, then "About America Online". If it says "America Online 3.0 for Windows" you are using the 3.1 version. If it says "America Online 3.0 for Windows 95" you are using the Win95 version. If it says anything else, you need to upgrade.
