The Fantastic Adventures of Unico Transcript
Part 1: Introduction/The Story of Unico
(Golden light is streaming through the clouds down
into a forest glen. Among the ferns and fruits rests a beautiful
unicorn.)
NARRATOR: Long, long ago, in a medow far, far away a mother unicorn
gave birth to her babies, just as mother unicorns have been doing since the
beginning of time.
(All around the mother unicorn, her little ones
pop up over the sides of the nest
some laughing, some crying. Meanwhile,
at the nest's edge, a little tail pops up, followed by two legs - unlike
the other baby unicorns, who are pastel colored, this one is
white.)
NARRATOR: Among the babies was one special little fellow with white
fur and a tiny white horn who's name was Unico.
(Unico turns to the camera and raises one golden
hoof to his mouth in surprise as his horn begins glowing on cue.)
NARRATOR: No one knew the reason why but this little unicorn had a
very special power. (His mother bends down and licks
Unico lovingly) Wherever he went, Unico had the gift of making
all living things light-hearted and happy. (The
other baby unicorns look at Unico in wonder.)
MONTAGE/SONG: "Unico"
(during the first half of this montage little shots
of Unico are displayed in bubbles that appear on the screen - in these shots
Unico does various things: he falls down, plays with little bugs, flys around,
strikes poses, sleeps, cries, laughs, runs
at one point he even looks
at himself in the mirror. The last shot is of him walking away from the camera,
with a little red ribbon tied to his tail)
The little fellow named Unico
As cute as cute can be.
An innocent boy was Unico
So happy and so carefree!
What heaven!
Life as sweet as nature could have planned
What strange gift do you hold in your hand?
Is it true
That wherever you may go, oh Unico
(during this, second half of the montage, Unico's
powers are displayed - there's a picture of a war raging - Unico runs around
the soldiers, his horn glowing, and by the time he's gone all of the men
are hugging one another and smiling. There's another picture of an angry
man, a sobbing woman and a sad looking gentleman - Unico appears on the scene,
runs around happily, and when he's gone the people all look overjoyed.)
Across the land the fighting will cease
And night will turn to day.
All tears will simply disappear
And the world will say,
"We love you, oh Unico,
We love you."
(the final shot of the montage is Unico sleeping
on a swing in the middle of a sun-lit forest outside of a great white building
- he is surrounded by both animals and humans who just stand there and watch
him sleep)
NARRATOR: Hard as it is to believe, there were certain individuals
who were not overjoyed with Unico's powers: the gods.
(Shot of heaven, a bunch of older looking men milling
around some clouds and tall pillars. A couple of them are
yelling.)
NARRATOR:
who thought that they alone had the right to decide
when people should be happy.
GOD #1: Wherever that Unico goes, people start laughing and dancing
like complete idiots!!
GOD #2: (fist clenched in anger) Oooh! Happiness should only
be the end result of years of sacrifice and hard labor!!
GOD #1: (points down at Earth) He must be stopped!
GOD #2: I certainly agree!!
GOD #3: People are losing all their respect for the gods!
GOD #2: There's only one thing to do.
GOD #1: What? What??
GOD #2: Unico must DIE!! (he says this with such force that his
halo crashes down onto his head)
(Over on another cloud, there stand five other gods
who have been listening in on the argument.)
GOD #4: Now, wait a minute -
GOD #5: (holds head in dispair) Oh dear, oh dear!!
GOD #6: Let's not be hasty -- we're supposed to be merciful.
GOD #4: We could simply exile him somewhere.
GOD #5: (excited) We could, we could!!
GOD #7: (pokes out from behind #5's beard) Ooh, a good idea.
GOD #4: We could get the West Wind to do it for us.
GOD #7: (shoves past them, holds his hands up in the air) West
Wind, come to us!!!
(Beautiful music begins to play as the West Wind
approaches. She has the appearance of a goregous, woman made entirely out
of shades of white and blue light, and as she flies her long hair and shimmering
robe flow out behind her. When she speaks her voice is very even and
calm.)
WEST WIND: I am here.
GOD #5: We have a mission for you. You must find the creature Unico
and carry him far away and cast him up on the Hill of Oblivion!
(The other gods gasp, but the West Wind simply stares
at him and says nothing.)
GOD #5: No matter how many thousands of years pass he must remain
in exile far from the sight of any living things. It must be as if he never
existed!
WEST WIND: (bows her head) Your wish is my command.
(Instantly the scene changes to the forest glen
where the mother unicorn is sitting with her young. Suddenly the mother and
her babies are frozen as still as statues. The West Wind appears and picks
up little Unico, who is sound asleep.)
WEST WIND: Poor little one. I must steal you from your mother and
take you to a place where you'll be forgotten forever.
(Cradling Unico close, the West Wind takes him up
into the air, her trail glittering against the night sky.)
NARRATOR: And it was in this way that little Unico's long, long journey
began.
[TITLE CARD: The Fantastic Adventures of Unico.
A medley of songs from the movie begin to play - the medley includes the
main theme, Katy's "Kitty Witch" song, and the scary music used for the Baron]
(The night sky is now littered with storm clouds.
The West Wind, glowing brighter than ever before, is still traveling - and
Unico is still tucked in her arms sleeping.)
WEST WIND: (looks at Unico) No, I cannot do it. No matter what
the gods say, I simply cannot abandon you to the Hill of Oblivion.
(She looks determinedly up ahead - they are approaching
a dark, rocky island set in the middle of a raging ocean.)
WEST WIND: Here in this land of mist, this place at the edge of the
earth, far from the sight of men and gods. I'll leave you here.
(The West Wind lands among the rocks and sets Unico
gently on the ground.)
WEST WIND: Here. The gods will never notice you in this place -- provided
you don't show yourself by using your magic powers. (she watches as Unico
stirs slightly) But then, there's nothing here on which you could use
them.
(With one last look at the little unicorn, the West
Wind fades away.)
WEST WIND: Farewell Unico.
