Part 3: Unico and Beezle - The Deal
(Beezle chances another look at Unico - who is still
sitting in the same spot - and then ducks for cover as if afraid someone
will see. Angry at this lapse, too, he jumps onto another pillar and silently
fumes for a few moments.)
BEEZLE: If Unico had never come here I'd be just fine. Now because
of him I'm lonely all the time and I don't even like the guy. (begins
yelling and kicking his feet and arms) I hate him, I hate him, I hate
him, and I hope I never see him again, never!
(But Beezle interrupts his tantrum when he something
down below catches his attention. It's Unico, walking slowly towards the
pillar Beezle is currently occupying.)
BEEZLE: (in happy excitement) Unico!!!
(Beezle scrambles down from the pillar to come
face-to-face with Unico, at which point he composes himself again, the perfect
picture of righteous anger.)
BEEZLE: What do you think you're doing here, I thought I told you
never to set foot in here again?
UNICO: It's just that
I thought you wanted my horn.
BEEZLE: (shocked) What? You mean you really - you'll really
give me your horn?
UNICO: Yes, because I want to be your friend. But you've got to take
very good care of it, okay, and - you're going to have to make me a
promise.
BEEZLE: Well, what kind of a promise?
UNICO: You've got to promise to give it back at the end of one day.
BEEZLE: What?? (jumps around angrily) Just one day?? I only
get it for one day?? You lousy little cheap-skate!! I knew there'd be a catch
to it somehow!!
UNICO: (hangs head sadly) Does this mean you won't be my
friend?
BEEZLE: (caught off-guard) Oh!! Oh, no, I'll do it, okay.
UNICO: You will!?!
BEEZLE: But of course it means I'll only be your friend for one
day!!
UNICO: O-okay. Go ahead.
BEEZLE: (steps closer to Unico's head) How - how do I do this?
(touches the horn tentatively) Does it
come off?
(Beezle grips the horn with both hands and begins
pulling. The horn detatches from Unico's head - Beezle had been pulling with
such force that the sudden freeing of the horn sends him tumbling back up
against some rubble, where he sits, dumb-founded that it was so
easy.)
BEEZLE: (looks at horn) Well, what do ya' know?
UNICO: Don't forget, you have to give it back at the end of the day!
BEEZLE: (still studying horn, ignores Unico) Leapin' Lucifer,
it came right off. I wonder
will it go on my head?
(Beezle places the horn on his head - it becomes
attatched and glows brightly for a moment. Beezle feels the change, becomes
incredibly excited, and sends himself flying up ontop of the nearest pillar,
laughing all the way. Once there, he checks his reflection in the polished
stone, admiring the horn striking different poses. Assured, he laughs again
and leaps back down to the ground where he immediately straddles Unico like
a cowboy atop a horse.)
BEEZLE: Ha ha ha! Giddyup!
UNICO: Ow! Hey, stop it, what are you doing??
BEEZLE: (using his long tail as a whip, forces Unico to run
around) What do you think we're doing?? We're playin' together!! Ha ha,
giddyup!!
UNICO: Stop it! You're too heavy!!
BEEZLE: Aah, quit your belly-achin' - you wanted to play, didn't
ya'!?
UNICO: Hey, would you please stop hitting me with your tail? I don't
like it!
BEEZLE: I'm having a great time! Keep quiet and keep going!
(Beezle urges Unico to go even faster than
before
not a good idea once they approach some stone stairs. Unico trips
and falls on his face - Beezle goes flying a few feet and has a hard landing
himself. Silent for a few moments, he bounces angrily another few feet, gathers
his breath, and lets loose a piercing wail that rattles the entire castle
- it's another temper tantrum.)
UNICO: Huh? Oh what is it now?
(Unico makes his way over to the sobbing Beezle
and gives him a lick on the cheek. Beezle is not amused.)
BEEZLE: (slaps Unico a few times) What do you think you're
doing? Huh? (punches Unico squarely in the face, sending the little unicorn
flying)
UNICO: Oh, don't you know how to play with a friend the right way?
BEEZLE: Oh, well what do YOU think we should do?
UNICO: Well, for example, we could just have a friendly conversation,
or we could play a game of hide and seek - have you ever played that?
BEEZLE: (laughs) We could have a friendly conversation, huh?
Or play hide-and-seek, huh? (laughs, kicks up some dust, preparing to
run) Just watch this!!! Yowwwww!! This is how devils play!!
(Beezle storms around the castle, knocking stones
down and plowing through things with his horn.)
BEEZLE: This is what I call fun! This is how devils like to play!
It's a lot more fun than hide-and-seek! It's funner than anything!!
(As he's talking, one of the pillars he just plowed
through begins to fall on him.)
BEEZLE: Uh oh.
(The pillar smashes down ontop of Beezle, who simply
drills his way through back up to the top - coughing a
little.)
UNICO: (alarmed) Stop it! That's not funny! You're going to
ruin my horn - cut it out!! Huh? Stop it
what are you doing?? Aahhhh!!
(Beezle proceeds to chase Unico out of the castle
and out among the grounds, occasionally poking Unico in the rear-end with
his horn.)
BEEZLE: I'm stronger than you are!! I'm going to poke you!! You scrawny
little runt, you're not very good at this game, are you?? Ah, ha ha!!
UNICO: Stop it, stop it!!
BEEZLE: Here I come!! Oh, I've got you now!!
(The chase continues as Unico and Beezle weave through
a mess of boulders and run through hollowed out pillars. Finally, they reach
a cliff's edge - Unico is stuck between Beezle and the raging ocean
below.)
BEEZLE: Looks like this is the end of the line for you
UNICO: (steps back a little, voice shaking) Stop it, this game's
gone too far!!
BEEZLE: (comes a little closer) Oh yeah?
(Unico loses his footing and falls backward, down
into the water.)
UNICO: (choking, splashing around in the ocean) Beezle, help
me!
BEEZLE: (looks down at Unico) Hm?
UNICO: Without my horn, I have no powers!! Beezle, help!!
BEEZLE: (sits down and lets his feet dangle over the edge)
What do you mean by 'help' - my daddy never taught me about that word.
UNICO: It means help me! (keeps getting splashed by water)
You've got to reach out and rescue me!
BEEZLE: Aw, you gotta be kidding - devils just don't go in for that
kinda thing, ya' know?
UNICO: I'm drowning!! (his head becomes hidden by a wave, only
to resurface after a few moments) Aaaah!!!
BEEZLE: (stands, stretches, yawns) This is getting boring.
I think it's time for a nap. (heads back towards castle)
UNICO: (watching the approach of another wave) Help!!
(Back in the castle, Beezle is lounging around on
some fallen rocks.)
BEEZLE: Ah, leapin' Lucifer, I can't get to sleep. (chews on tail,
hums to himself) Maybe I should help him. Naw, devils don't do that kind
of nice stuff. Still, I do gotta return his horn to him. I made a promise
after all, and devils have to keep their promises - Daddy was always very
strict about that.
(Beezle sighs and looks over at a huge hour-glass
- only instead of sand inside, there are small rocks which regularly plink
down to the bottom half.)
BEEZLE: But I still got the rest of the day before I get to return
it to him. (jumps to his feet and paces around in circles) Time sure
drags on when you're having fun
can't it go any faster!? (pants heavily,
runs over to the hour-glass and yells at it) I won't be able to keep
my promise if you don't hurry up!
(Beezle runs in place for a few moments and then
flys through the air, slicing the delicate vein connecting the two halves
of the hour-glass with his horn. The rocks that remained in the top half
spill out onto the ground.)
BEEZLE: (triumphantly) Well, according to the hour-glass the
day is over! Now I get to keep my promise to Unico and return his horn. Here
I come!!
(Beezle speeds out of the castle like a bat out
of hell, racing towards the cliff's edge. He stands there and looks out at
the water, but doesn't see Unico.)
BEEZLE: Unico!!! I'm here to give you your horn back!! Oh, look how
far out he is, what a dummy! Okay, Unico, don't worry here I come!! (takes
a running leap) Charge!
(Before he can fall, Beezle throws himself back
ON to the cliff and hugs it for dear life.)
BEEZLE: Whoa! Suffering Satan! I almost forgot -- the ocean's dangerous
to us devils!
(Beezle takes one last look at Unico's head, bobbing
in the water far away, and then turns to walk dejectedly back to the castle.
He's almost gone on his way when he turns back around and runs back to the
cliff's edge.)
BEEZLE: No, I made a promise and I've got to keep it. (dives into
the water) Geronimo!
(Stirring music begins to play as Beezle swims through
the turbulant ocean, using his tail as a propellor.)
BEEZLE: Unico!!!
(Beezle tries to swim up over a wave, which crashes
down on him.)
BEEZLE: (resurfaces, coughing up sea water) Think you can stop
me, huh? Unico!!!
(Beezle makes it to Unico, who is floating in the
water, apparently unconcious. He takes the horn off of his head easily and
holds it toward Unico's.)
BEEZLE: (coughs) Well, the day's over and I've brought your
horn back!!
(Another wave comes, crashing down on
Beezle.)
BEEZLE: Whoa!!
(When he resurfaces, he sees that Unico has been
pulled even farther out to ocean. Stubbornly, Beezle follows
him.)
BEEZLE: Didn't you hear me? Here's (chokes on water) your horn!
Your horn, you dummy! Unico!
(Beezle reaches Unico, grabs his head and shakes
it in an effort to get him to wake up.)
BEEZLE: Hang on Unico, open your eyes, here's your horn!
(Beezle manages to fit the horn back on Unico's
head, which causes Unico to wake up.)
UNICO: Beezle.
BEEZLE: (visibly weakening) I told you I'd give you your horn
back. I'm just keeping my promise.
UNICO: Beezle, thank you!
BEEZLE: No need to thank me.
(Unico notices that Beezle is no longer even bothering
to swim, and that it's an effort for him to even keep his head
afloat.)
UNICO: What is it, what's wrong??
BEEZLE: Unico, the sea is poison to devils. (coughs)
UNICO: (incredulous) You mean you knew that and you still saved
me?
BEEZLE: Who said anything about saving you? I just kept my promise.
(allowing himself to be carried away by the current) Goodbye - goodbye,
Unico!!
UNICO: Ohh. (bows head and closes eyes as his horn momentarily
glows golden) Thank you, Beezle.
(Unico sinks down below the water's surface, seeming
to go almost to the bottom. Then, his own small body disappears and is replaced
by that of a much larger, beautiful white winged-unicorn. The unicorn grabs
an unconcious Beezle with its mouth and flys back towards the island, as
part of the movie's theme plays in the background. Once they've reached the
cliff, the unicorn gently rests Beezle down on the ground and lowers its
long, shimmering horn down towards him.)
BEEZLE: (awakens, looks at his hand) Wait a minute, what's
the big idea, I'm still alive! (looks at the unicorn) Hey, what just
the devil is... (sweeps his hair out of his face so that he can have a
clear view of the creature who saved him)
going on??
(The unicorn, looking down at Beezle, glows golden
and shrinks down. When the light has faded, it is Unico standing in its
place.)
BEEZLE: Huh? Unico!?
UNICO: (smiles, walks forward) If someone truly loves me, I
have the special power to turn into that mighty unicorn you saw. And I think
you love me, Beezle.
BEEZLE: Huh? What did you say!?!? Love!?!? Yuck! Stop it! Stop it!
Yuck! (scratches himself fiercely) That word makes me itch all over!!
(points at Unico as if accusing him) I love you - what a disgusting
idea!! Yaaaahhh!!
UNICO: Oh come on, Beezle, you know it's true, you do love me - and
I love you too.
BEEZLE: (yelling) Are you trying to kill me all over again?
Stop it, I hate it!! (turns away with a grimace on his face)
UNICO: Here, I'll prove it to you!
(Unico bows his head and points his horn - which
glows golden - towards Beezle. When Beezle is hit by the power of the horn,
he becomes gold for a few moments as well, as a little horn - identical to
Unico's -- sprouts from the top of his head.)
BEEZLE: Huh? (touches horn) What the devil
? (jumps
up in the air in excitement) It's a horn!! My very own horn!!!
(Beezle looks over at Unico, who is watching him
happily. Beezle rests his arms behind his head, hums to himself and walks
around, feigning non-chalance. He walks backwards towards Unico and then
turns around casually, as if he's suddenly had an afterthoughft.)
BEEZLE: Thank you.
(No sooner than the thanks is given than Beezle
is bouncing all around the island, giddy beyond belief.)
BEEZLE: (singing) I've got a horn, I've got a horn, just as
good as my dad's! Now I'm a real devil!
(But something peculiar is happening - wherever
Beezle goes, things like green moss and flowers and grass are sprouting up
around the once-dead, completely gray island. Life is beginning to make its
presence known in an area once surrounded completely by mists. Vines even
begin to crawl their way up the walls and towers of the castle. Finally,
the sun breaks through the clouds, and the sky turns from dismal gray to
blue.)
(From a distance, the island now appears completely green - even the once
forbidding looking mountains - and the surrounding ocean is sparkling blue.
It looks like a completely different place. And unfortunately, up in heaven,
the gods take notice of the change...)
