What You Can Do

PRAY: Pray for the end of war and God's reign of justice.  Pray daily for the victims and survivors of war and for decision-makers to take steps to stop the production, sale, and use of landmines.
EDUCATE: Inform and educate your family, friends, co-workers, and parishioners about landmines and the campaign to remove them and ban their use.  Consider lifting up this concern in corporate prayer and perhaps through an article in the church newsletter or bulletin insert.
ACT: If you live in the U.S. write the President. Write, call, or visit your representatives in Congress urging strong, clear U.S. leadership to ban landmines, without delay.  Work with and organize others to advocate for change.

A Prayer

God of all people, you created us and sent Christ to live among us as the Prince of Peace.  We, your children in all lands, humbly pray for reconciliation in our world.  We have separated ourselves from one another and we have built walls between races and nations.  Forgive our failings and show us the ways of peace.

We pray for those who live where war and conflict exist.  We pray for those who suffer death and mutilation. Strengthen their families, increase our compassion, and help us act for peace and justice.

Move the hearts of those who lead nations and armies that they may look across invisible lines and see those others as your persons of eternal worth.  Guide our nation and its leaders that they may seek resolution of the violent conflicts at home and around the globe.

All loving God, we commit ourselves to be instruments of your love and justice.  Help us to make the world more hospitable to life, to laughter, to joy, to peace, to prosperity, to caring, to sharing, to children, to people, to trees and grass and stars, to beauty and goodness and compassion, to justice and equity.

Amen.

The words of Christ

Blessed are the peacemakers.

Love your enemies.

Whatever you do to these littlest of my sisters and brothers, you do to me.
