My name is Mary Billington Liller. My husband Bob and I and our Pekingese/Terrier puppy "Manny" live in the southern tier of NY, and have three daughters and six grandchildren. Since our retirement we have been interested in pursuing our family genealogies. I am a proud sponsor of Rootsweb. If you haven't been there just use the link at the bottom of this page. My future work on the history of our family will be dedicated to the memory of my brother, H. JAMES BILLINGTON, who passed away August 15, 2001.

Our Billington family has been in New York State since at least 1809 when gr-gr-grandfather, Peter W., was born in Lansing, NY. The family remained in Lansing until after his death in 1864. Within the next several years , gr-gr-grandmother Nancy (Hunt) Billington moved to Steuben County and married Henry Thompson. Two of Peter's older children by his first marriage to Hannah Teeter, moved to Minnesota and were pioneers in the settlement of Faribault and Winona Counties. Another son, Jerome, served from NYS in the Civil War,and later moved to Steuben County. Jerome was a tobacco farmer, and later served as one of 3 Excise Commissioners for the City of Corning, NY. In Corning he married Julia Thompson and had two sons, Henry, and Arthur (who was my gr-father).

Who were Peter W. Billington's parents and where did they come from? New England? New Jersey? Pennsylvania? Who were his siblings? I have much information on Peter's descendants which I'd be happy to share and/or swap with anyone who has information on my ancestors.
