Opalec NewBeam
Regulated LED Upgrade Kit for 2 AA Mini-Maglites
Available from Opalec for ~$28

The Opalec NewBeam is a retrofit kit for use with 2-AA Mini Maglite flashlights.
It replaces the incandescent bulb with a cluster of 3 LEDs powered buy a step-up
power supply that fully regulates the brightness output  for  8+ hours.  Simply put,
the brightness remains constant until the batteries are so drained they can't drive the
power supply any longer, unlike most other flashlights that constantly dim
throughout their battery life.  The brightness is equal regardless of battery type.

When a smaller, 4th red LED lights up, it indicates the batteries can no longer power the
converter and will need to be changed soon.  During this time, the 3 white LEDs continue to
work while diminishing in brightness until the batteries are completely drained.

Included in the kit are instructions, the NewBeam LED Module which replaces the original bulb,
an adapter ring which replaces the original reflector, and a replacement lens.

All the electronics are hidden inside the nicely designed LED module, making the assembly very easy to do.
No tools are required.  The kit is not recommended for older model maglites, although it has been reported
on CandlePowerForums to work without a problem.
