The purpose and activities of the Mid-Michigan Cocker Spaniel Club:
Support Dog Events that promote an interest in and sustain the process of breeding for type and function of the Cocker Spaniel
Provide educational programs for teaching and information for the members of the organization, and for the public interest in the breed.
Hold specialty shows and obedience trials to further the sporting quality of Cocker Spaniels.
To be ambassadors in presenting the breed to show their value as loyal companions.
Mid-Michigan Cocker Spaniel Club was founded in 1983, by a group of enthusiasts wanting to share their love and vision for the Cocker Spaniel. The road was rough and rocky while the members struggled with learning the how to's of selection, absorbing valuable information, genetics, defects, "show quality", and how to apply the above in acquiring that "perfect" cocker. But the last part continues to be illusive.
Utilizing the magnificant facilities of Michigan State University in providing the members of MMCSC with the veterinary staff for sharing their knowledge of many relevant factors in the selection of breeding foundation stock.
We also had a lot of fun. Matches got us going and as time passed we progressed into very successful participation by the fancy. Sanctioning for B and A matches seemed infinitely slow. We sent our portfolios to AKC with "Great Expectations", to have them returned for "more forms needed".
Approval was received for our first "B" match for April 1, 1990 and our second "B" match for October 7, 1990. On November 15, 1992 our second Plan "A" sanctioned match was held, and MMCSC was approved for requesting licensed status on December 14, 1992. MMCSC's first American Kennel Club Licensed Cocker Spaniel Specialty Show was held Sunday, March 27, 1994.
