Mary Margaret Minnis, Ph.D.
Email

Peggy Minnis, teaches chemistry and environmental science at Pace University in Pleasantville, New York. Her fields of interest include water and wastewater chemistry,  wetlands  protection and GIS/GPS. She was a member of the Darien, CT Environmental Protection Commission, which administers the town's wetland regulations and other land use plans, for ten years.

Dr. Minnis received her B.S. in Chemistry from Marywood College in Scranton, PA, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. Her master's research involved evaluating methods to remove heavy metals from landfill leachate, and her doctoral research led to a method to assign a "signature" to the particulate matter emitted from coal-fired power plants, using a combination of scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray analysis, coupled with computer-controlled image analysis.

She is currently involved in determining the effects of golf course management on stream quality. Dr. Minnis uses a combination of chemical tests and benthic macroinvertibrate analysis to assess changes in stream quality as it passes through a golf course. She works with golf course superintendents to assess baseline water conditions and monitor water quality changes as new management strategies are implemented.
