Karn Evil 9 From 1986-2005 I was the Percussion Director at Poteet High School in Mesquite, Texas. I started at Poteet in 1986, the year the school opened. Over the course of many years I was able to build a percussion program from literally nothing into a high-quality department, recognized all over the world. The percussion program at Poteet High School was made up of some of the finest percussionists in Texas. Many of these students went on from Poteet into major universities and now have successful careers as music educators, performers, writers, arrangers, etc. This performance of Emerson Lake and Palmer's masterpiece: Karn Evil 9 was a culmination of many years of development and growth in the Poteet Percussion Ensemble. Thanks to the internet, this performance has been warmly received around the world. The percussion ensemble arrangement of Karn Evil 9 - Impression 1, Parts 1 and 2 was done in 2003-4 by myself. I used an excellent transcription by Seattle medical doctor, Brent Wood, which I obtained in the mid 90s. I took Dr. Wood’s transcription and corrected a few minor errors and also added a few elements of my own (such as a horn section). This performance of Karn Evil 9 took place at our annual Percussion Ensemble Concert held at Poteet High School on May 20, 2004. It featured these fine student performers: |
