Mike Myers was born in 1957 in Lubbock, Texas. First became involved with music at the age of three. Formally began music study at age 11 on percussion. Was greatly influenced by rock music of the late 60's and early 70's and the fusion movement of the 70's. Major influences include: Emerson Lake and Palmer, Frank Zappa, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Gino Vannelli, Kansas, Triumvirat, Steely Dan, Dan Haerle, The Dregs, Kit Watkins, Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Weather Report, Brecker Brothers, Yes, Jethro Tull, and many others. Received music degrees from both Texas Tech University and The University of North Texas. Spent years playing professionally in various rock and jazz groups, while always wanting to lead his own band playing original music. With the invention of MIDI and digital recording technology, this dream has become a reality. Mike Myers has been on the summer bandcamp percussion staff at Texas Tech University, Texas Lutheran College and Southwest Texas State University. As a professional musician, he has performed with numerous musicals, jazz, rock, and variety bands throughout Texas for over 30 years. Mr. Myers also heads a percussion publications company which features his acclaimed beginning drum method: Percussion Precision: The Inside Track as well as numerous percussion ensemble compositions and arrangements which are performed annually at high schools and universities all over the USA and abroad. As an artist, Mike Myers has released two solo compact disc recordings, Sonic Frontiers (1992) and Myriad (1996). In his home studio, Mr. Myers has recorded five compact discs for Drop6 Percussion Publications and has produced and performed numerous other CDs, including a 2004 release for Jamey Abersold's play-along series featuring the music of Dan Haerle. He also teaches private percussion, performs and judges all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. His magazine articles have appeared in Modern Drummer, Rhythm and Goldmine. Mike Myers currently serves as Percussion Director at McKinney North High School in McKinney, Texas. In addition to teaching at school, Mike judges and conducts clinics at various schools around the Dallas, Ft. Worth area and plays percussion professionally all over the area. Mike also spends a great deal of time in his well equipped home MIDI studio composing, arranging, recording, teaching private lessons, and desktop publishing.
