Children of Memory
Mnemosynides Coven
|
|
|
|
*The Titaness MNEMOSYNE, whose name means Memory, was mother by Zeus to a litter of nine goddesses, the MUSES, inventors of the Arts and Sciences, keepers of the skills of the Tribe.
*Our members are painters, poets, linguists, singers, aromatherapists and scholars. We are, like the Muses, MNEMOSYNIDES or Children of Memory. Our Coven seeks to explore the arts and sciences as paths to enlightenment and awareness of Divinity.
*As Witches we work to reconstruct the old ways of worshipping Mother Earth.

"She's been waiting for Her children to remember to return."
We combine a love of Nature with an appreciation of this vast and sometimes scary City in which we live. We negotiate both the tangled briars of the woods, and the littered sidewalks of New York. Culture is the human partner of Nature. We learn from our city's museums and religious institutions as well as experience nature in its open spaces.

Ours is an Initiatory path, following the Three-Degree system of the Gardnerians.
Following a path to initiation is encouraged, but not neccesary for attending our rites.
WE ACCEPT PEOPLE OF ALL GENDERS, ORIENTATIONS, AGES, AND FROM ALL RACIAL BACKGROUNDS.

Mnemosynides' Heritage
We are of a Gardnerian lineage, of the Protean Tradition. Our spiritual foremothers include Rosemary Buckland, Margot Adler, and Judy Harrow. As Proteans, we diverge somewhat from traditional Gardnerians. We encourage creativity in the writing and performing of ritual, rarely working directly out of the Book of Shadows. We choose not to work skyclad; a thin layer of cloth is no barrier to the energies we raise in circle.
While polarity is recognized and worked with, we do not see polarity as contingent upon genitalia. Initiated students are eventually taught to channel both the Goddess and the God.
