The Fern Hill Centre is a new kind of institute which brings together three main activities:

1. It is a centre for individual and group psychotherapy which uses a combination of advanced but well-tried methods with the aim of optimising human potential.

 

2. It is a forum for collective theoretical enquiry which seeks to extend and deepen the theoretical basis of psychotherapy by integrating it with contemporary social and cultural theory. In particular, it makes use of concepts of the social construction of personality and gender derived from broadly `postmodernist' theory. Stripped of the impenetrable jargon in which they are frequently clothed, these ideas provide an enriching intellectual context for psychotherapeutic practice.

 

3. It provides a material base for a community of like-minded people who can meet here regularly and flexibly for intellectual exploration and personal stimulus and resourcing.

Set in idyllic surroundings on the edge of Ashdown Forest, Sussex, U.K., with easy access from London, the Centre offers a relaxing and stimulating escape from the stresses of city life.

The Centre also offers residential courses combining psychotherapy with social and cultural theory.
