Synopsis:

Carolyn is making attempts to date after more than a year of living in Gull Cottage, and Capt. Gregg is not very happy about this (translation: he's jealous). He puts her dates to sleep, makes them sick, and has their cars attack them. Carolyn finally gets the Captain to agree that he will stop interfering with her dating life.

One morning, Carolyn is relaxing on the lawn reading when a car pulls up and Sean Callahan leaps over the garden wall, coming to crouch in front of Carolyn. He is the spitting image of Capt. Daniel Gregg, but for his modern clothes and Irish brogue. Carolyn invites him into the house to see the Captain's portrait and point out the resemblance. She is quickly charmed by him, especially when he tells her he lived with a ghost for years. Martha and the children come home and are charmed by him as well.

Sean takes Carolyn out for dinner and dancing, and the Captain comes along as an "invisible chaperone." The Captain ends up ending the date by forcing Sean into his car and making him drive off. Sean shows up the next day on the lawn with a full trailer, and announces he has arrived to study the ghost, which he is now convinced is in residence at Gull Cottage. That night, after Sean and Carolyn have had dinner in his trailer, despite the interruptions of the Captain, the Captain comes to haunt Sean as he sleeps. When Sean wakes up in a dinghy on the front lawn he announces he's returning to Ireland to write a book about "The Great Ghost Gregg." He departs, promising Carolyn that she will get a copy of the book, hot off the presses.

Favorite moments:

Sean's arrival at Gull Cottage, Sean's arrival to pick Carolyn up for their date, Sean's little sniffle as he walks around the car, Sean rowing on the lawn, and kissing Carolyn on the nose. Basically, all the scenes with Sean and Carolyn. Especially the very last scene when the Captain relaxes a little and admits he admires Sean for his taste in women, and the subsequent smile on Carolyn's face.

Favorite quote:

Capt. Gregg at the very end of the episode: I admit nothing, madam, except a certain admiration for his taste in women.

Least favorite things about this episode:

The constant bickering from Capt. Gregg and the almost complete lack of the normal wonderful interaction between the Captain and Mrs. Muir.

Interesting notes:

This episode is filled with quotes from the film and original novel. Edward Mulhare had at least four costume changes, and wore two different casual cravats, which was practically a trademark for him (wearing cravats when he didn't wear ties). We get to see Sean in bed and wearing pajamas.
