PLOT SYNOPSIS

"Vienesse opera stars Karl and Maria Lang have everything: looks, talent, fame - and very jealous natures. In fact, Karl is so suspicious that he masquerades as an amorous Russian nobleman to test his wife's fidelity. Of course, the smitten Maria knows it's really Karl she's flirting with. Or does she?"
- Liner Notes from Turner/MGM-UA Videotape

NOTES

"It gave Eddy his best-ever opportunity to shine. And although his 'straight' moments as the jealous spouse were lamentably unconvincing, his performance while masquerading as a flamboyant Cossack was a revelation, and the most effective piece of acting he ever committed to film."
- Clive Hirschhorn, The Hollywood Musical

"Talky musical remake of The Guardsman: it nearly comes off, but not quite."
- Leslie Halliwell, Halliwell's Film Guide
