PLOT SYNOPSIS
". . .scenarist Leonard Spigelgass, working from a biography of the composer [Sigmund Romberg] by Elliott Arnold, came up with the usual ladder-of-fame narrative, showing the composer's step-by-step rise to Broadway eminence after humble beginnings as a musician in a modest Second Avenue cafe owned by Anna Mueller. . .A song plugger. . .persuades Romberg to up-tempo his approach to music, and the result is 'The Leg Of Mutton Rag,' Romberg's first commercial success. . .A string of minor shows for the Shubert brothers followed, until Maytime - whose success resulted in two Broadway productions of it appearing at the same time."
- Clive Hirschhorn, The Hollywood Musical
