| To your left is a picture of me hugging Dean Cain. You're just going to have to take my word for it that that's Dean, cuz . . . it is . . . even if you can't see his face. I met him on July 10, 1999. I haven't seen him since, and he won't return my calls! :p Just kidding. So anyway, you might want to know how I became a FOLC. Well . . . here's my story.
It all started during the summer of 1993, when they would show promos for Lois & Clark during my favorite soap, All My Children. I am a purebred child of the eighties and had grown up watching Superfriends and Superboy and Supergirl and those movies, and I was totally turned off by the idea of another show about Superman.
But I watched it anyway.
And hey, I liked it!
So I watched it off and on throughout the first season, and by the end of the year, I was taping episodes. By fall of 1994, I was officially hooked, and was taping every episode and wearing out my VCR.
During the second season and for part of the third, I had a friend who liked L&C, but she didn't like it as much as I did. By the beginning of the third season, I was very depressed. I desperately wanted someone to talk to about L&C. Thankfully, we got Compuserve in late September and I found FOLCdom.
I LOVED talking with other FOLCS, and I loved IRC-ing, even if it was confusing and scroll-crazy back then. I joined the Metropolis Club, read fanfic like crazy, and made a bunch of new friends. I wrote some fanfics in early 1996, some of which I've kept.
I kept Compuserve until the summer of 1997. Early that year -- as you probably know -- Lois & Clark was canceled. I was so depressed in the months leading up to that. I sent several letters and postcards to ABC and Warner Bros. but the show got canned anyway. In August, I got America Online. I found the message boards and began making new friends.
Around the end of the year, I got the urge to start a Lois & Clark fan club. It was something I had been thinking about for several months, but I finally decided to go ahead with it. In January of 1998, FOLC Central was born. It's still going strong.
In 1999, I found out that Dean Cain was going to be playing in a charity basketball game in St. Louis in July. He'd done it the year before, but this year I could actually go! My family had already planned a trip to Michigan by car, and hey -- Michigan and Missouri are practically neighbors! So I begged and pleaded and my mom said OK, and to St. Louis we went. There was a planned FOLC meeting, so about 50 FOLC and I were crammed in a room with Oh Gorgeous One. I got his autograph:

And I also got a hug! Yeah, baby! In case you're wondering, Dean is very yummy in real life and is super nice.
So that's my story. I could have gone into more detail, but it's late and I'm in a weird mood. So thank you for visiting! :) Come again!
