Encouragement: Food for the Soul II

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to GOD. "And the peace of GOD, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7
by Linda Cook

So often we get caught up in our needs and desires forgetting our blessings. I find Philippians 4:6-7 a great comfort. It reminds me to keep GOD at the top of my list. Just knowing He is with me wherever I am, whatever I am doing, or under any circumstances assures me that everything will be all right. ("And we know that GOD causes all things to work together for good to those who love GOD, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28)

In Romans 8:38-39, Paul says that nothing shall separate us from the love of GOD. With scriptures like these to hold on to, we can be free to live life to its fullest. I firmly believe that if we stay busy looking for our blessings, we cannot possibly fret over large problems, much less trivial obstacles confronting us.

A few ways to help us be a joyful Christian:
  • REST in His promises.
  • SING praises to Him.
  • FOCUS positively on others.
  • NOTICE the constant blessings GOD gives us (a sunny day, a gentle rain, a fluttering butterfly, a bird's song, a whisper in the trees when the wind blows, or a baby's soft skin).
  • ENJOY doing a good job using our best efforts and talents.
  • SHARE a laugh, a hug, GOD's word, a smile, a hand, an ear, a meal, our time.
You might want to make a list of your own. Think about what makes you happy and DON'T forget to thank GOD from Whom all blessings flow.
