Math, Who Needs It?
The following project will give you an opportunity to
explore a career and look at how math is used with that career.
In order to do well on this project all
requirements are to be completed.
Project Requirements:
1. What math classes are required?
Explain what math classes are required in both high school and college (or professional
school) for that career. Write the exact name of each class that is needed.
(Calculus 1 is okay, but Math 21A is not)
2. What other classes (not math)
or tests are required?
Explain what other
classes are required in both high school and college (or professional school) for
that career. Include all of the special tests and classes that you need to take.
3. Describe a typical day on the
job.
Describe a typical
day on the job from beginning to end. Be sure to include some daily encounters with
fellow personnel, and when math is used throughout the day.
4. How is math used on the job?
Explain how math
is used when working in this career. Describe when and where math is used.
Also explain how math is important for that career.
5. Salary Range.
Write the salary range for the career.
6. Write down your sources.
Give your sources
some credit!!! Include books, articles, interviews, web sites, etc....... DON'T
PLAGIARIZE
7. Label your display
"Math, Who Needs It?" and make sure the career is clearly labeled on the
display.
Make your project
creative and colorful. Feel free to include pictures of your career.
8. Prepare a brief presentation
about your career.
Give a 5-10 minute
oral presentation on your career. Explain what your career is all about and how math
is used. (Use the project requirements as a guide)
General Information: (100 Test pts)
The grade will be based on completing all of the requirements, spelling / grammar,
and the oral presentation.
The project is due Thursday March 7, 2002
(No late projects will be accepted. If
you are absent, you are responsible for getting the project to me by 3:00 pm on Thursday
March 7, 2002)
