Dog Shows
|
In shows, dogs are judged on their conformation, i.e. how well they conform to the official AKC breed standard. Standards are like written "blueprints" which describe the ideal size, structure, gait, temperament, coat and color, etc. for each breed. Many of MRSSA's members compete with their spaniels for show Championships, some even winning Best of Breed, Sporting Group and Best In Show honors. In the show ring judges physically examine the dogs to evaluate their structure. They also observe them either posed by their handlers or standing on their own in a free stack, and watch them gaiting at a trot. <-- Welsh Springer Spaniel "Tyler" stands in a free stack. |
