HARROGATE IN THE PASTPUMP ROOMS The Royal pump room dates from 1842, it was the first project of the newly formed Improvement Commissionsers to provide a suitable building to house the sulphur well. It was designed by Isaac Shutt and cost £3000! In 1842 the number of drinkers of the water was 3,778; in 1867, 11,626; in 1925, 259,000. The Pump Room was turned in to a museum in 1953, it still attracts many people to taste the waters, you would have thought the smell was enough to put you off!
