Painter, etcher and engraver. Born in Bristol. Won a British Institution Engraving Scholarship in 1909. Studied art at the Bristol Municipal School of Art, at the R.C.A. 1909-11 and at Goldsmith's College School of Art. Was elected A.R.E 1910, R.E. 1923, A.R.A. 1934 and R.A. 1941. Exh. Internationally receiving many medals and awards. Represented at the Venice Biennial Exhibition of 1938 as the sole British entry in the Line Engraving and Drypoint Section. Member of the English Faculty, British School at Rome, 1930- 52. Created C.B.E. 1951. Lived for a time in London, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Represented in many galleries and museums.

Artist, designer and teacher, working in a variety of media. Born in Essex of French and Anglo Irish parents. From 1947-85 he lived at Crays Pond, near Reading where he worked in a converted barn. Later lived in London. Royal College of Art tutor 1966-74. Travelled and exhibited widely, including R.A., Paris and elsewhere. Many one man exhibitions. British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, Arts Council and provincial galleries hold examples.

GERALD LESLIE BROCKHURST R.A.,R.E.(1890-1978)
Absolutely top quality etcher and lithographer. Born in Birmingham, he studied art in Birmingham, France and Italy. His etchings show the influence of early Renaissance Italian painters and Augustus John. He is a much respected and sought after etcher. He exhibited at the R.A. and R.E. from 1915. Elected R.A.1937, R.E.1921. He lived in Chelsea for some time and from 1939 he lived in New Jersey, USA.

SIR FRANCIS SEYMOUR HADEN P.R.E. 1818-1910.
Highly important painter and etcher. Practised as a surgeon, etching in his spare time. Whistler, who was his brother in law, influenced him greatly. They were founders of the Modern Etching Movement. Also founded the R.E. where he exhibited 286 times. Knighted 1894.
. | EGHAM LOCK Beautiful and rare little etching on white watermarked L.P.E paper. Narrow margins trimmed to 1/3rd inch of plate. Small abrasions and loss of paper very top right edge. Tiny hole (pin prick size) in the sky right side above lock gate. Otherwise good clean condition. Faint pencil signature bottom right and the no. 16 bottom right corner. No. 16 may refer to Malcolm Salaman's reference in his catalogue of Haden's etchings. This is a very crisp impression after the removal of the title and signature in the plate. MONT ST. MICHEL VERY LARGE ETCHING. Absolutely superb work. Excellent condition. Backed onto linen. Monogrammed & dated (18)'89 in the plate. Signed in pencil in the margin. Image size 34 x 24½ inches / 860 x 620 mm. Owing to the size of this etching the buyer will have to arrange carrier collection. I also have the pair to Mont St Michel, LIMBURG ON THE LAHN. This is very time toned and has some damp damage, particularly in the bottom right corner covering the pencilled signature. It is in a nice old wooden frame and looks good on the wall. ELYSE ASHE LORD fl. 1915-71.
Watercolourist and colour print artist. She was elected R.I. 1932 and was a member of the Society of Graver-Printers in Colour. Favoured exotic and Far Eastern figure subjects, treated in delicate and imaginative colours. Her work was published by the London dealer Alexander Reid & Lefevre. Showed at that Gallery, R.A., R.I., R.S.A., Fine Art Society and Paris Salon, where she gained a Silver Medal for colour prints. In 1990 Cyril Gerber Fine Art held an exhibition of her work. Lived in Bexley, Kent.

Cartoonist for the Glasgow Evening News 1920-1930. He visited the Continent and North Africa on many occasions etching views in Algeria, Spain, Italy, Belgium and elsewhere. Exhibited R.S.A., G.I. and L. and Paris Salon, Glasgow Art Gallery holds his work.

Born in London. Studied at Hornsey College of Art 1946-1950. Taught at Medway College of Art. Moved to Eastbourne in 1953. Head of Printmaking at Eastbourne College of Art and Design. Later became Vice Principal until his retirement in 1980. He was a prolific illustrator and printmaker. He held many one man shows. Exh. R.A. for 34 years in succession. His work is held in many public collections including the V & A and the Government Art Collection.
