He is a music preservationist, singer, former radio host, and cable television producer. His music lectures or workshops are available either for a general audience (adult education, business meetings, company employees, conventions, historical society, lectures, public library, museum); or a specific audience (church or community choir, music school students, college music lectures, music workshops). All the music materials, such as song sheets, will be provided by the presenter. Additional materials, such as CDs and audio or video tapes, will be available for sale on the day of the event. AMERICAN MUSIC AND AMERICAN HISTORY 1. Music of George Washington's Time [L] - concentrating on the music heard during the late 18th century, including songs written for and about George Washington. Songs can bring more peace and understanding to you during stressful times. The workshop involves examples from a personal memoir and how to compile a "musical scrapbook" of your favorite songs. Remembering Radio - Great Songwriters and Singers [L or W] - audio clips - a nostalgic look back at music featured on various radio broadcasts from the 1930s to the 1950s. OLD NEW ENGLAND MUSIC 7. The Lore and Legends of New England Songs [L or W] - stories about misunderstood and mysterious tales of patriotic, religious and other New England songs. Singing Stoughton - The Story of America's Oldest Choral Society [L] - slides or video - a look at the Old Stoughton Musical Society from its beginning in 1786 to its bicentennial observance in 1986. The Humble Heart: Music of the New England Shakers [L or W] - slides or video - a look at Shaker music and how it developed in four New England states: Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine. Workshop includes a video showing and singing of Shaker songs and hymns. Book: A Guide to Shaker Music - With Music Supplement with accompanying CDR or Cassette Tape. 10. Let Zion Move: Music by Shaker Women Composers [L or W] - slides or video - a survey of music and poetry written by Shaker women, from their leader Mother Ann Lee in the 1780s to the Victorian era of the 1880s. Workshop includes a video about recent Shaker sisters, and a discussion of Shaker women composers and the songs and hymns written by them. 2-CD Set: Let Zion Move: Music of the Shakers - with extensive booklet of historical material and lyrics for all the music, mostly written by Shaker women composers. 11. The Simple Gifts of Shaker Music [L] - slides or video - a survey of Shaker music from its beginnings in England to its development in America during the 19th and 20th centuries.
