Ham Radio University 2002 for Long Island

HAM RADIO UNIVERSITY 2002 is scheduled for January 20st in North Babylon, Long Island, NY. The third annual HRU, a special day of education for amateur radio, will be held on

Sunday, January 20, 2002 at the Babylon Town Hall Annex, Phelps Lane in North Babylon, New York.

Some highlights this year include 21 different one-hour forums, with new forums on "Debunking Antenna Myths", "Emergency Antennas and Power", "The Art of QSLing", "Skywarn / Severe Weather" and "Disaster Communications". Additional topics will include antenna "hints and kinks", DXing (finding that rare country), contesting, 6 Meters - the magic band, guide to purchasing amateur radio equipment, APRS, the new digital modes and PSK 31, satellite communications, QRP (low power operating) communications fun, kit building, how to get your tower approved, ARRL, an "ask the experts" forum and more. In addition, there will be information booths manned by participating amateur radio clubs from the New York City / Long Island area as well as ARRL (American Radio Relay League), QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless Association) and an area for DXCC/WAS card checking. An ARRL VE test session for all classes of license will also be held. Donation will again be $2.00, with spouses and children under 12 admitted free. HRU 2002 is a nonprofit event sponsored by the Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club and other participating clubs and organizations. This was a very successful event last year with over 250 attendees and the committee expects an even larger crowd for HRU 2002. Put Ham Radio University 2002 on your calendar now!
