Music Goes to the Dogs
Have you ever wondered what your dog would sound like if he or she could sing?
Every dog, of course, is different, but Dog Dreams (We Shall Be Their Voices),
offers some haunting, memorable, and hilarious canine cantatas.
Dog Dreams (We Shall Be Their Voices) is an 80 minute CD sold in order to raise
money for Ratbones Rescue, the National Rescue League specifically for Rat
Terriers. The ten tracks range from folksy (squirrels in the sky, sings a dreaming
woofer named Bugle), to the bluesy (the doghouse is nice and dry, croons another),
and the barkster rap BIG DOG! Some songs are unashamed love letters to best friends,
including, the rock and roll question Why Do You Scratch So Much? There is a ballad
of a man too busy to play praying that his dog learns to understand why is being
given away.
Addressing the purpose of the recording directly: to raise consciousness for
dog over-population and its consequences, an electronic synthesizer plunks
out the insistent background track for A State of Misery by Steve Wood.
