Native American Survival from Cancer is a project designed to provide an opportunity for Native American cancer survivors to tell their stories of surviving this disease and to emphasize the importance of participating in cancer prevention and control programs. The goals of the project were to (1) illustrate that Native men and women do survive cancer and continue to live productive, fulfilling lives after being diagnosed with cancer, and (2) increase the number of Native people who participate in cancer prevention and control programs. This project was supported by the Graham Foundation of Colorado Springs, Colorado and the Avon Breast Health Leadership Award, New York City, NY. The interviews were conducted by Native American coordinators. All interviewees were Native American and represented approximately 27 different tribes. Diagnosed cancer sites included bone, bowel, breast, cervix, colon, lung, neck, ovarian, prostate, stomach, and uterine.
