Project 2000-2001


Introduction

Federico García Lorca, was a celebrated Spanish dramatist and poet.  He lived and wrote during the pre-Spanish Civil War period.  His works have been translated into many languages and continue to receive world wide acclaim as new generations of readers identify with his preocupations and enjoy the sensorial qualities of his writings. 

As you spend the next two months reading two of his plays, "Bodas de Sangre" and "La Casa de Bernarda Alba" and poems from two of his books of poetry, "Poema del Cante Jondo," and "Romancero Gitano,"  you will have many tasks to accomplish.  As you read ask yourself the following question, To what can one attribute the universal and seemingly timeless appeal of Lorca's works?

The Task

You will do many activities as you explore the literature of Federico García Lorca.  Specifically you must:

Drawing on what you have learned about the use of personification, the audio and visual in the works of Lorca

  • Create an original picture using a computer graphic program such as Paint.

  • Write two paragraphs in Spanish that describe your computer graphic

  • Write a "diamond poem" that illustrates your computer graphic

  • Create an original music file or get a wave or midi file from the Internet that illustrates your computer graphic

  • Write a 400 word composition in Spanish on the use of personification, the audio and visual in the writings of Federico García Lorca

  • Take a digital picture of yourself

  • Make a PowerPoint presentation with

    • The original computer graphic

    • Two paragraphs describing the computer graphic

    • The "diamond poem"

    • The music file

    • The 400 word composition

    • The digital picture of yourself

You will utilize Microsoft Word, Paint, and PowerPoint.  Additionally, some of your research may be conducted on the Internet.


The Process

Much of the work that you must do on this project will be done outside of the classroom.  You will be given time in class to use the computer to put your work into Microsoft Word, Paint and PowerPoint. 

  1. First read and discuss in class the following poems from Lorca's books of poetry "Poema del Cante Jondo" and "Romancero Gitano:"

  1. Then read and discuss in class the following plays by Lorca:

  • Boda's de Sangre

  • La Casa de Bernada Alba

  1. In a 400 word essay in Spanish discuss the use of personification, the audio and visual in the writings of Federico García Lorca. Put your essay in a Microsoft Word document which you will name as follows:  lorca_your last name_your first name

  2. Create a graphic using Microsoft Paint which has personification as its theme in the style of Lorca.  Put this graphic in your Microsoft Word document.

  3. Create a "diamond poem" which describes your computer graphic.  Put it in your Microsoft Word document.

  4. Write two paragraphs in Spanish which describe your computer graphic under your graphic.

  5. Use the Internet to search for a midi music file which represents the mood of your computer graphic.  Insert it in your Word document.

  6. Make a PowerPoint presentation with the components in your Microsoft Word document.
