All the band stuff you
need to know
But auditions
terrify me ... and I do
not have time to go to rehearsals!
We don't hold auditions,
so that's no excuse! But we do have hold regular rehearsals now. We know
this is scary ..... many of us had not picked up our own instruments in
years. Some of us even had to have Mom and Dad search the attic for them.
We do not compete
with other bands. Sometimes we join forces with other bands on the east
coast, but not for competition. You're not being graded on your performance
and no one has to do those palm sweating solos in front of the rest of
the band (unless you're really in to that).
We want you to have
fun and we want to have fun as well. All you have to do is give it a try.
And after you do, if you still don't think you can join, don't. We haven't
shot anyone yet.
If you're willing
to do whatever it takes to learn your music -- on your own, with friends,
with a music teacher, or anything else you can dream up -- and you can
rehearse every other Friday in the month then we invite you to join the
Band. The main thing we ask is that you learn your part before mandatory
the all member rehearsals that precede group performances.
Help us
achieve our goals
The North Carolina Pride
Marching Band will:
Perform at
celebrations and events like:
-
The North
Carolina Pride parade held in a different
city in the state every year in June
-
Other parades and benefits
inside and outside of North Carolina to which we are invited
-
Performances and get-togethers
organized by Lesbian and Gay Bands of America (LGBA),
at major events like the Gay Games and presidential inaugurations.
Bring people together
from
the Heart of North Carolina -- especially lesbi-gay and transgender people,
but also friendly straight people -- who want to perform in a primarily
a gay band and have fun doing it. We love music and want to share that
love with our community.
Build bridges
between ourselves as North Carolina
band members, between ourselves and other members of the lesbi-gay and
transgender communities, between ourselves and the straight community,
and between our band and the national Lesbian and Gay Bands of America
(LGBA).
Foster the
love of music which transcends sexual
orientation, gender, race, age, and the other differences between people.
We believe that there is common ground to be found in the midst of our
diversity, and that from that common ground grows great strength. We want
to be a foundation upon which strong bridges of unity can be built.
