THE "TV GUIDE" QUILT

This quilt was inspired by a contributer to rec.crafts.textiles.quilting, who described a woman in her neighborhood who made similar quilts for the neighborhood teenagers.

This quilt got its name from its template - you use a TV Guide, Reader's Digest, or other digest-sized magazine as a template for your blocks. It is one of the simplest quilts to make, and sized just right to make good use of old clothes, particularly jeans and baby clothes. Because it only uses one shape, it is also a good beginner's quilt.

To make the quilt you first sew rows of rectangles together along the short side. Then you sew the rows together, creating a grid like this:

That's all there is to it!

Below is a chart with the most common quilt measurements, and the number of rectangles you will need to make a quilt of that size. These measurements assume a 1/2 inch seam.
