Commission rates and media:

Pricing:
Individual: Simple black and white, (pen & ink) drawings start at $25 for 8 x 10 ($30 for an 11x14), and increases from there.  The average cost of a subject with a background on an 8x10 is around $45. Colored drawings start at $35 for 8 x 10, $45 for 11 x 14. For a simple single 8 x 10 I will make copies for my files and the original goes to the contractor.

Commercial: I normally get $30 per vertical inch for 1/2 page column for commercial use. Customarily the contractor or publisher gets first rights, I retain the original, and I retain second rights.

If the subject matter is appealing to the general public in either case, I  reserve the right to do a limited-edition print run.

A non-refundable deposit of 30% of the estimated bill is required for purchase of supplies.

* All media subject to pricing negotiation*

Media:
Most of the work I do is pen & ink; I usually use pencil for rough work. I also work with Prismacolor pencils, gouache, watercolor, acrylic, art marker, and etching. I work on a variety of surfaces; scratchboard, clay-base paper, bristol board, parchment, cold-press illustration board, wood, recycled & fossilized ivory, recycled slate shingles, acetate, glass, 50 lb. paper, watercolor paper, fabric, and canvas. Turn-around time depends upon how many other assignments I am currently working on. To date there has not been a problem, and I can supply references if you wish.

Subject matter:
My current subject matter includes; fantasy, science fiction, and scientific illustrations, which include animals, plants and insects. I work with several small publications and not-for-profit organizations on a regular basis; a list of these can be supplied upon request.
