It is now my prayer for my children and for all people that Jesus will be "real" to them. I have been a Christian over half of my life, but have only known that incredible "realness" for a very short time, and it came after watching "Matthew", from the Visual Bible.
Quite simply, "Matthew" was my "wake up call". In Revelations 3:2, Jesus tells us to "Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God." Through the Visual Bible's "Matthew", God reached out to me to tell me to "wake up"! You know, with many of us "Christians" it is those sins of "omission" that can take their greatest toll, and that is the way it was with me. As the mother of three young children, I had simply let God "slip by the wayside"...even though I regularly attended church, etc. He had become further away than I would like to admit.
After watching "Matthew", I saw a Jesus like I had never before seen. Here was a Jesus that laughed and loved and cried....so very "real". It was God's way of reminding me that He was still there waiting for me to "get real" with Him again! "Matthew" has blessed my life in so many ways...it is truly a profound program! I realize this may sound "melodramatic" to many, but you have to remember that "Matthew" is simply the Word of God....Only the words of the book of Matthew (NIV) are spoken. Since "Matthew" is the Word of God, of course it would be profound!
The book, In the Footsteps of Jesus, has also been an incredible blessing! In it, the author, Bruce Marchiano, talks about how he tries to portray Jesus as a "Man of Joy" and how in the making of the film, he "fell in love" with Jesus! It is amazing to read the ways that God worked in the filming of this project and in the lives of those involved. You will hear first hand about God's awesome power and inspiration, as well as learn powerful lessons about our Lord! Learning how he worked in the life of Bruce and others was a reminder to me as to how God could also work in my own life!
For those of you who only know Jesus as some ethereal figure who never smiles and is quiet and passive, I invite you to experience Him fully and "get real with God"! God used "Matthew" to reach out to me. He is also using our Animated Series to reach children, so that they too can know the "realness" of Jesus. (I have witnessed this first hand!) Perhaps He will use these programs to reach and bless you also, or maybe it will be a simple prayer, a Bible study, a worship service, etc. However you seek it, I hope that you will find joy and "realness" in our Savior!
