In this day and age of one-stop shopping and
long-distance computer purchases, common space, customer
service and human interaction are going by the wayside.
We at the Next Chapter believe we serve as an antidote to
this growing condition. We offer fine books, cards and
gifts in a friendly, hospitable location. Our store is
used by many community groups for meetings, classes are
held regularly, we try to get information out to everyone
on important activities and events, and we sell tickets
to many community functions. We hold author talks and
signings, host Woodland Reads activities, help get books
in to area schools, share poetry, and even provide a
showcase for Weird Christmas Trees. We offer refreshments
of drinks and pastries from our cafe. Unfortunately, all
of these facts do not add up to being able to support
ourselves financially.
Now, following the lead of four
Bay Area bookstores, we offer you, our customers and
friends, the chance to keep the doors open by joining our
membership club. If everyone who expressed frustration,
sorrow and anger over our possible liquidation finds the
means to join, we just may be able to continue to serve
this community for another 20 years.

How does a
membership work?
1. Pick the annual
membership level that sounds good to you.
2. Fill out the membership form and pay your annual
membership.
3. We'll give you a packet for your level ... with
coupons and information.
~ Your personal membership
card will be mailed to you in a few days. You'll need it
to get into the members-only events.
~ You'll receive your members-only personalized bookmarks
as soon as they're finished.
~ If you're due a t-shirt and/or a mug, we will have
those for you as soon as they are printed.
~ The cafe and the book & gift coupons can be used at
any time.
~ The author event featured book coupon can be used at
any author event.
~ If you join at a level that means PALMS tickets, you'll
get two coupons to be exchanged for the real tickets.
~ When you join as a Franz
Kafka you will get the packet of benefits that goes with
whatever your first month's payment was ($50 would be an
Emily Dickinson, $100 would be a Jack Kerouac, and so on)
THEN as you give a more each month, we will mail you the
benefits that you grow into. You will also be mailed a
Franz Kafka membership card so you know your identity ...
please, no confusion.
