| Jewelry is so
expensive, so I decided to make some of my own. I found a supplier of
stainless steel wire, and stainless steel threaded balls, and went to
work. I made the bracelets by bending 10 gauge wire around a pipe and then
threading the ends. I screwed on the balls, and it was finished. Each 3
foot piece of wire was about 5 bucks, and I made 7 bracelets out of it.
The balls were like 50 cents each, so these were quite reasonable in
price.

The earings I made out of 12 gauge
steel - it's a bit lighter in weight. I just found three different size
pipes and bend and cut the wire to size. I found the ear hooks at a craft
shop for about a dollar, so these cost about 3 dollars for the pair. I
made them three rings to symbolize the three phases of the moon.

The spiral armband is my favorite
piece. It's one 3 foot, 10 gauge wire which I shaped by bending around a
pipe. I threaded the ends, screwed on the balls and it was done. This was
just over 5 dollars. I love the symbolism of the spiral - cyclical in
nature, just like life.

So I was in New York
City with my boyfriend and I passed a bead store. All those pretty
beads, and they even had them in semi-precious stones. I had to get
some, so I ended up buying 20 rose quartz beads, 10mm size, and 20 hematite
beads, also 10mm, and a few other assorted accessories, like some stretchy
string for the bracelets and pins for the earrings.
The bracelets took about 20 minutes
to make - simply slide the beads onto the string until it's done, and tie
it together. I used the 10mm size because my hands are on the large
size, though 8mm might work better for small or average size hands.
20 beads worked out perfect for the size of my wrist, but you'd need more
in the smaller size of course. The bead store had a chart that tells
how many beads you need for how many inches. The earrings also took
just a few minutes, and I really like the circular bead for the end.
They called it a donut. All told, the bracelets cost maybe 8 dollars
each, and the earrings were maybe 2 dollars each. I can't wait until
the next time we go - I'll get more rose quartz for another set of
earring, and maybe enough for a necklace or two...
