If you are the target of an allegation:
- If a serious allegation is made, contact an Administrative
Law attorney if your area does not have an attorney who specializes
in foster care issues.
- Request the policy and procedures concerning investigations
for your agency. Find the Administrative Code for your state on the
Internet or at your public library.
- Contact your state or local Foster Parent Association
for support. Many states have an allegation support team.
- Gather evidence for your case. Look through old daily
planners, notebooks, calendars.
- Use Internet resources for research and support.
- If you did nothing wrong, do not plea bargain.
- Find out your rights for an appeal.
- If the finding is not in your favor, fight back. Contact
your Children Services director, county commissioner and legislators.
Find someone who will listen to you.
- Be professional and courteous at all times.
- Advocate for allegation reform.
